Lulu's Letters

 Good afternoon, flowers!

🌷
What a swift September it's been, hasn't it? Or perhaps it is for me being my birth month?
It seems as though the month had only just started and now, it's more than halfway over..! As the seasons begin to change and the weather begins to cool off here in the Western hemisphere, the days will start to slow, too!

And so, today I thought I'd share with all of you my birthday gets from my dear Prince! After pestering me for weeks on end about what I'd like as a birthday gift, I finally settled on a little Liz Lisa haul, filled with pieces I'd been wishing for! ☆
I hope you'll find them as dreamy as I do!

Tiny Swan Ballerina柄スカート in ホワイト(101)

Tiny Swan Ballerina Print Skirt in White (101)
107-4018-0

As many of you may know, last year I purchased the pink colourway of this dress upon release after  immediately falling in love with the delicate and darling details..! After a brief scare in which I was certain the pretty pompom was real fur, the LL community received confirmation that it was in fact fake, and I felt such relief! Ever since owning the pink version, which is a dusty, purple-hue compared to their older releases, I'd dreamt of the white version with it's icy blue and pale pink colour combo..!

Not particularly in need of another long-sleeved version of the same dress, I opted to go for the very last available skirt in the white I'd dreamt of! I was shocked to find that even a year later, there was one piece left on the website; it must have been waiting for me..! I fell in love all over again when I opened up the parcel, that feeling from its first release washing over me again!

Much like the OP version, the skirt has shirring at the back waist for a nice silhouette and extra room for any who may need it! Rather than a detachable bow, the skirt has two tightly sewn velvet bows with the pompoms attached, perfect for both tucking blouses or wearing a jumper overtop of! I've yet to decide if I prefer coordinating it tucked or untucked..!

Every dainty detail about this particular patterned piece makes me feel like a Winter princess, graceful and gorgeous! With elements of both old and new LL alike, it goes without saying that this pattern has grown to be one of my favourite newer designs of Liz Lisa's..! 🦢🩰

リボンビジューカチューシャ in ピンク(110)

Ribbon Bijou Head Band in Pink (110)

Of course, I couldn't resist getting an accessory to match with my princess coordinate I had in mind for the Tiny Swan Ballerina skirt! Perhaps one of the most underrated yet important parts of any coordinate, the right accessories can entirely change the feel of an outfit, or in this case, enhance it! A princess almost always has a crown after all, right? ♡

The ribbon bijou headband was a must for many upon its release; but having purchased a similar one from Mille Fille Closet's sale a few weeks prior, I wasn't in a rush to secure one myself. As time went on, I thought on how much I would have preferred the Liz Lisa version (which wasn't released until after I'd bought the MFC one!) with it's gold band and warmer hued ribbon; but I couldn't justify an order simply for the headband itself, and knew I'd need to be a bit more patient and hold out for the next order I made, if it was still available..! And to my luck, it was! It's funny how that works out sometimes, isn't it?

Alternating between rainbow crystal hearts and clear round crystals, it's somehow both simple and extravagant no matter what angle you look at it from, because it's such an eye-catching design! I'll certainly have to handle it with care as the bijou crystals are only held in place by prongs and in my experience with newer LL releases, aren't always the most sturdy; but if this heart can learn to be tender, these hands can, too. ♡

The ribbed ribbon on the other hand is far sturdier and radiates a more mature girly atmosphere compared with the longer MFC ribbon bijou headband, which makes both fun to wear for different moods! The pale pink shade works well with both the more warm-hued, older Liz Lisa pinks and the cooler-toned, newer pinks; so rest assured this little tiara will coordinate well with any princess attire~

ビジューストラップ2連リボンパンプス in ピンク(110)

Bijou Strap Double Ribbon Pumps in Pink (110)
115-9601-0

I've never considered myself to be a shoes girl or a handbag girl or any type of collector girl, really..! I like to have a reason for every piece in my closet, because I find that connecting with the clothes I wear, rather than simply collecting clothes to wear, helps me to be a more conscious shopper and create more heartfelt outfits! Of course, if you're in a position to collect and it's something you're passionate about, I say follow your dreams to wherever they may take you..!

When the bijou pumps were previewed in the Chocolat pattern release, I had high hopes that for the first time in quite some time, Liz Lisa was going to release a pair of pumps to replace my older, much worn Many Ribbon pumps from 2017..! Much like previous bijou pump releases, I also had high hopes for both a pink and beige colourway to choose from and while I wasn't lucky enough for that option, I WAS lucky enough to secure a pair in pink!

When I received these pumps, I was in awe at the beautiful details, from the removeable bijou ribbons to the lace up backs and the scalloped rounded toe! While the shade of pink was a bit more on the grey side, especially compared to the many ribbons pumps (2017) or even the newer ribbon strap heels (2020), against the pure white lace and crystal detailing, it wasn't all too colourless a pink! In fact, for once, the real shade is quite comparable to the stock photo..!

Much like many of their current pieces, the bijou of these pumps creates both a girly and flashy atmosphere that can be styled to be playful or more mature! The lace up detailing of the back is a nice touch that I've noted always yields compliments from others about how unique my shoes are..!

Perhaps one of my favourite features of these and several of their new releases includes the ability to remove and rearrange extras like the second set of ribbons on the ankle strap! From changing the position of the ribbon to using them as matching hairbows, I love creating new styles and uses for them, as the heart bijou make them the perfect accessory!

As you can slightly see in the above photos, the bijou straps are lovely against the lace detailing; however much like the bijou headband, make for worry that the pieces won't necessarily hold... Scuffing and marks are commonplace for shoes looked after even with the most care, but missing bijou or crystal detailing is much harder to watch for! Of course, this was something I was aware of going into my purchase and can only hope that the prongset pretties will stay snug!

One minor detail and complaint I do have with these darling pumps is something I know many Liz Lisa gals struggle with: the fit. Despite consistently buying the M size and comparing to ensure the shoes are 23.5cm as stated on the website, perhaps due to the nature of the straps, these pumps fit a bit snug..! The straps are pulled through a loophole at the back and when one is made larger, the other grows smaller, including the one around the ankle. Because the straps are rather thick, the loophole is rather rigid and tugs on the straps with each step, creating a rubbing sensation on the back of the heel.

Perhaps with a little more wear, this will loosen over time? For now, I'll be sure to wear over the ankle socks and break them in slowly...
Good things take time, after all. ♡

And that concludes my little haul of goodies my sweet Prince spoilt me with this past birthday..! I know that I am so very lucky, not only to have been gifted such treats but to be able to share these photos with all of you! I hope that whether you're debating a purchase yourself or just looking for inspiration, my photos can bring you a smile today and always.

Until next time!

 Hello, sweet flowers!

🌷
As we begin another new month heading towards the end of the year, I thought I'd write up another something sweet to share with everyone today! Grab a cup of tea or coffee and join me for a tasty treat that's sure to have your mouth watering! 💌

- - - ♡ - - -

Have you ever eaten something so delicious that you almost regret each bite, knowing there's one less bite than before? Admittedly, that probably sounds a bit silly considering how many delicacies the world has to offer..! But when one combines delicious food with heaps of love, it brings out something magical in a flavour that can't be achieved with just store-bought ingredients alone.

If you've been following me for any means of time now, you'll surely have heard me mention my favourite local eatery by the name of CheChe's Vegan. Run by the ever so beautiful, ever so talented Tanesha, this vegan pop-up 'popped up' on my radar sometime mid-last year, when the pandemic kept many of us indoors and exploring our own creative food palettes.

Eager to enjoy a little time out of the house and support a small business during tough times, we packed up the boot of the car with blankets and pillows and perhaps the least cuddly of stuffed animals, Miss Junie, and set off for a lakeside picnic with our first ever CheChe's Vegan meal.
I'd mentioned at the time, we didn't have the most success with the unexpected downpour raining on our lakeside parade; but one thing was surely a hit: the food.

Ever since that late Summer encounter, we've been hooked on Tanesha's home cooking, and of course, her! We make it a point to safely venture to as many pop-up's, events, or markets she vends at, if not for the food but to see her shining face. No matter how many times we shyly saunter up, she warmly welcomes us with a hug, a smile, and excitement to fill our bellies with yummy food!

And so when she kindly offered us a special dessert to try, one not yet on the menu, I thought that perhaps, maybe I was dreaming? 💭 A special treat from my favourite local chef? It was sure to be the most delicious thing I'd ever tasted and spoiler: it was.

The moment I laid eyes on this CheChe Special Vegan Berry Cheesecake, I couldn't wait to get it home for a few photos alongside my favourite porcelain pieces..! Something as beautifully crafted as this dessert deserved its own photoshoot before being eaten up in just a few days (perhaps less if I had just a smidgen less self-control)!

Fluffy, creamy cheesecake base, perfectly sweetened, and glazed with berry compote baked into a golden crust: all entirely vegan and all entirely for me. Well, alright, that's a bit of a stretch on the truth, even if I wish it wasn't...
I'd never tasted cheesecake, vegan or non-vegan, as delicious as this. One filled with so much...love? Passion? Heart? With every bite, I realized that food like this (and all of her dishes) is more than just about how it tastes...it's how it makes you feel. Food from the heart, for the heart. ♡

Writing up this little post had me wishing I could have just another bite to share with all of you..! I hope you can forgive me for not saving any this time around and instead, I hope you were able to enjoy my waffling words! Please be sure to give CheChe's Vegan a little peek if you're in the mood for some heartfelt, homemade vegan cooking with a smile.

Hello, sweet flowers!
🌷
It must be that time of year again, the time in which I find a bit of wind beneath my sail that motivates me to share a new handwritten letter with you all on Lulu's Letters! 💌

Today's letter, much like the ones that have come before, shares a bit of a broader look at a new purchase of mine. This time, in anticipation for Autumn still to come, I'll be sharing photos of Liz Lisa's early AW collection featured print, the Chocolat Pattern One-Piece!
I hope that my photos can help those still unsure or hesitant to decide if this is the right piece to find a home in your special closet!

ショコラ柄ワンピース in  ブラウン(123)

Chocolat Pattern One-Piece in Brown (123)
115-6001-0

As a self proclaimed princess of pastel, it's certainly strange to find myself writing up a post about a dress in brown with raspberry accents; but the heart wants what it wants, is what they say! As briefly mentioned in previous posts, I don't necessarily find my heart on the sleeve of all too many prints of recent Liz Lisa releases. I tend to be a bit more level-headed and understanding that if a print is to sell out, I can and will continue on without it, in chance we may meet in the future. And so, many patterns have been a miss for me, whether it be because I'm not all too fond of the design itself, the fit of the piece, or otherwise.

The chocolat one-piece, with its delicious pattern and attention to detail, had me wondering if it was about time to add a chocolate print to my wardrobe. After all, chocolate is good year round, right?
And so, I fell into it's sweet and sticky clutches...🍫

As some may have noticed, Liz Lisa's colour palette has changed quite drastically in recent years. Pinks are no longer warm hued and most pieces come in variants involving pink, white, and black. Being an Autumnal print and one of chocolate, it was almost guaranteed that this print would have a brown colourway option! Not being a fan of black prints or the new, cooler dusty pink hue, I set my sights on the brown..!

Not purchasing the print on immediate release allowed me time to see the shade of brown in different lightings, which can play a big factour in the true colour of the piece...
After seeing the slightly more muted brown modelled by Nana Kato in the official photos and the warmer, richer brown modelled by the shop staff, I was confident it would come in a shade I'd truly like!

As you can, see in the warm hue of my bedroom, the brown comes out fairly lightly, though not washed out! It pairs nicely with the raspberry accent colour of the tulle layer, the ribbon on the sleeves and the removeable neck ribbon. The plaid pattern near the bottom of the print is very similar to the Romantic Messages Teddy Bear print from 2020 A/W; though in my opinion, it works better with this pattern! The choice to have a variant shade, the raspberry, works well to bring out the warmth of the brown and remind you that the dress is truly one big chocolate bar..!

Something I've always appreciated dearly about Liz Lisa pieces is the attention to small detail. The cushion heart buttons, the neatly embroidered 'frambois chocolat' of the bow, the pearl button at the back of the neck... The little joys deserve equally as much celebration and appreciation!
While I'm not necessarily always a fan of big neck ribbons, especially so when the front bib pattern is so beautiful on its own, I adore the ability to remove or add it as I please. Personally, I like to use them as hair ribbons to create a matching coord..!

Teddy bears, chocolate squares, cookies and cakes and all the other sweet motifs makes this one of the most . It incorporates a bit of that old Liz Lisa flair with the florals, ribbons and lace as well as the newer generation of Liz Lisa with their love for cute characters (teddy bears and bunny rabbits, especially so) and sweet themes. ♡

- - - ♡ - - -

As a special addition to my little letter, I also wanted to add a few photos of the dress worn, in varying shades of lighting..! As I wrote above, it took me some time to decide myself, and while the dress is almost sold out now (I blame myself for taking so long to write this post...), may this post help you if it were to show up in the future!

As you can see, in cooler lighting, most of the colours become a bit more desaturated and the raspberry tones seem to stand out more than the brown shade which can be seen in the bow in my hair and the lace trimming. In the warmer lighting of the last two photos however, the colours really pop..!

Although this is the free size, I find that Liz Lisa's newer pieces can be a bit big on the bust for me personally, and so I greatly appreciate the ribbon at the back that ties to bring the dress in a bit more.

♡ - - -

And so my review of the new Chocolat pattern one-piece is a wrap (though if this were a chocolate bar wrapper, it would certainly be empty)! I hope that you enjoyed my little 'bittersweet fantasy' wonderland, I find that I have so much fun creating photoshoots to share with you all, especially of Liz Lisa pieces!
May the rest of your day be equally as sweet! ♡

Until next time!

Good afternoon, flowers!
🌷
It's been a little bit, hasn't it? I'll spare the introduction of how much I intended to blog throughout this year and yet how little of it actually came to be. C'est la vie, right?

Rather, today I have a little look into my latest Liz Lisa order!
With quarantine affecting many of us around the world, I've found myself with a bit of extra time on my hands and wanted to make the most of the opportunity. I took time on a quiet Sunday afternoon back in March (yes, March) and created my own little photoshoot, to create a little Liz Lisa wonderland!
I hope you can see how inspired I felt by both their older and newer shoots!

ハートパール透かし編みカーディガン in ホワイト(101)

Heart Pearl Knitted Cardigan in White (101)
101-3003-0

I've been in need of a white cardigan for quite some, it's one of those items that you either have or haven't, and if you have it's all in one colour. My colour? Well, it seems to be mostly pinks, I'm afraid. I thought it was about time for a little touch of white!

Initially, I fell in love with this cardigan because of the heart knit detailing. Soft and subtle and cute, exactly what I had in mind. The pearl hearts and ribbons add that classic princess feel that Liz Lisa pieces tend to have! I also love that they're snap buttons, I feel as though it helps the ribbons and buttons to keep their shape, and not droop.

The ribbons on the sleeves are quite big and I find myself being extra careful not to dirty them ; but truth be told, they're bound to get a bit dirty one day! The scalloped neckline is a lovely little detail that compliments the cutesy accents. The front is slightly lower, which makes it perfect for displaying cute collar patterns while wearing this over-top! Everything pulls together so nicely, you can tell this piece was designed with a lot of love.

I'm excited to pair this with printed skirts and dresses, even during the warmer summer months. It's not awfully heavy, though not as light as say a Liz Lisa momonga cardigan!

バックリボンフリルソックス in ホワイト(101)

Back Ribbon Frill Socks in White (101)
101-9801-0

Now, I'll start by addressing that it's a bit difficult to justify spending nearly $30 on socks. The design and the fact that I've never owned a pair of socks not from Aliexpress may be the best attempt I have, other than that they made me happy and that's what it's all about.

I'd been thinking of these socks on and off, torn between the pink and the white options (and the desire to just purchase both) ; but after careful deliberation, decided I'd be more likely to wear the white! After all, there's no need to add something to your closet if you aren't certain how often you'll wear it. Each piece deserves love and attention, and if not, it deserves a better home!

The lace design itself is simple Liz Lisa, more than likely a leftover design from a dress that went well on socks. The added layer of tulle and ribbon pieces are what really accentuate the design, in my opinion! Bows on bows on bows!

I love the print on the sock for shoes that have an open top, it's a subtle little detail that is normally hidden, but makes the socks even cuter! Hearing the crystal heart charm dangle as I walk makes me feel a bit like Isabelle, too! ^^;

The socks can pull up the ankle quite a bit but don't slide down, as some socks do, which is good. While they seem sturdy enough, I've been carefully spot cleaning and hand-washing to avoid the charm rusting or losing the shape the ribbons have! It's certainly something to consider before spending on, well, anything.

Candy Jewelry Box柄ワンピース in ホワイト(101)

Candy Jewelry Box Pattern Dress in White (101)
101-6001-0

It's been a bit since I've purchased a print from Liz Lisa, in recent days I've been enjoying plain patterns (florals, gingham, patchwork) and more natural fabrics, like cotton! Especially during the warmer days, it feels nice to wear something that not only looks nice, but feels nice on the body!

When the design was first released at the beginning of the year, as a long-sleeved dress, I thought I may have to pass as I'd received the makeup rabbit print for Christmas and already had to put it away thanks to an early Summer. Again, it seemed silly to buy something I wouldn't get much wear out of this year.

But then, due to Covid-19, the release of the dress was delayed and when it was re-released, perhaps by a miracle, it became short sleeved! Despite being on the fence about owning another patterned piece, that was in some ways, similar to the makeup rabbit print, I couldn't resist the gingham frill and bow collar.

It was a tough decision, between the white, lavender, and pink colourways because the gingham accented the print so well in all 3 colours! Lavender seemed a bit too cool and with pink, I felt the design didn't catch the eye as much ; ultimately, I went with the creamy white! I love yellow gingham and the way this dress shines in the light is absolutely a yellow hue!

As I mentioned, the long sleeve design would have been a pass from me, not only because it wouldn't work for where I live but also because it seemed a bit too...plain. The sheer white sleeving was a design point for quite a few of the winter releases this year and while it doesn't exactly detract from the dress, it would have been a bit plain when the Candy Box design itself is so full of life!
Ultimately, I'm happy they gave the sleeve a little frill with the gingham pattern cuff to tie the piece together!

The double bow collar was another unique detail that I feel Liz Lisa did often back in the day, but came to go on without. Although it may be a bit childish to some, I love how it balances the tie ribbon at the back. It captures the playful, fun essence I think the designers envisioned when creating the Candy Box pattern.

Layers of delicate flowers, ribbons, candies and toy jewellery...
I was worried at first because, as many of us often worry about, I am growing older! My tastes, my style, little by little I change and grow every day. There was a part of me that thought, maybe, perhaps, this was too much? But too much for who? For others or myself? I loved the print, the cut and style of dress, the colour... why shouldn't I wear something I love, with pride?
And so, I did. ♡

As I grow, I want to continue to wear what brings me the greatest happiness, no matter what.
- - - ♡ - - -

That's it for my little Spring haul this time! This year has already been eventful and while things haven't panned out quite the way I'd hoped they would, I'm still thankful for moments like this, where I can write about the little joys I'm grateful for. It fills me with drive to write even more, so we can all share our daily reasons to smile, in hopes it can bring a smile to someone, somewhere.

Until next time!
With love, always,
